  • West Marsh Summer Clean Up Event

    Cleaning up Macaulay Way!

On Tuesday 19th August, we're hosting a community clean-up event on Macaulay Way, West Marsh, from 10am until 2pm.

The event builds on the success of several clean-up days we've held so far this year, all of which received fantastic feedback from our customers. Each event was designed to tackle fly-tipping and promote cleaner, more welcoming environments in our neighbourhoods.

Litter picking equipment will be provided so that the community can get involved in tidying shared spaces, as well as having skips on hand - kindly donated by Fortem - for customers to be able to get rid of any unwanted items they may have in their homes.

This will be a brilliant opportunity to connect with the community and show the positive impact we can make together for West Marsh!

If you're able to lend a helping hand on the day, please come along - It would be great to see you there!

  • Courtyard Transformation at Bovill House!

On Thursday 24 July, we held our community planting event at Bovill House in West Marsh, with the aim of the day being to brighten up the internal courtyard.

Whilst the weather threatened to rain for most of the time we spent there, it didn’t dampen spirits as colleagues got stuck in with replanting the communal flower beds, bringing a welcome splash of colour!

Partnering with Discount Home and Garden Centre – a local Grimsby firm – we were able to source a selection of beautiful perennial flowers that will continue to bloom long after summer, along with multiple bags of compost and planting supplies.

Amongst the plants chosen was lavender, which not only looks and smells beautiful, but also attracts key pollinators such as bees and butterflies; both of which are key to sustaining a healthy eco-system.

LHP staff from across the business came to show their support and took part in clearing the existing flower beds – all of which were overgrown with weeds and brambles - as well as giving the area a welcomed general tidy up.

Once the main beds in the central part of the garden had been cleared of weeds, the existing soil was turned over and raked. Staff then laid fresh compost and the flowers were planted.

During the event, customers stopped by to express their appreciation for the gardening efforts by remarking how much better the space looked!

One such customer told us she’d lived at Bovill for over 25 years! More recently, she’s avoided using the garden space as it looked tired and uninviting – that will now change however, thanks to the garden’s brilliant makeover!

The difference between how the garden looked before and after is vast – the space appears much brighter and a lot more useable.

When the weather improves, the garden benches will also be painted to complete the new look.

Sophie Gibbs, who’s the corporate Sponsor of West Marsh and Town said: “It’s nice to be able to come together with colleagues and do something that will really make a difference for our customers.”

“At Bovill House, the buildings are arranged around a central courtyard, and many homes overlook the space - with the addition of the new flowers and plants, it’ll be a much nicer environment for everyone to be able to enjoy!”

A big thanks to everyone who braved the dreary weather and came to lend a helping hand, your support is really appreciated.
