Meet our Neighbourhood Champions

Last year, we launched a recruitment campaign for Neighbourhood Champions, a new opportunity for local people who know their communities best to get involved in shaping what happens in their area.

Linked to our Neighbourhood Action Plans (NAPs), the Neighbourhood Champion role gives people living in our neighbourhoods a direct voice in local priorities. By sharing insight into everyday life in their communities, Champions help us build a picture of what matters most to local people and where our efforts can make the biggest difference.

From the start, we were clear that Neighbourhood Champions did not need to be LHP customers. We wanted to hear from people living in or close to our communities and want to help make it a place to be proud of.

We’re pleased to introduce the Champions who are playing a key role in shaping this work and driving it forward:

  • Sonny has been an LHP customer for over eight years and is keen to give something back to the community.

  • Mia has been an LHP customer for the past three years, she cares about making her neighbourhood a place to be proud of.

  • Joy is passionate about connecting neighbours and strengthening community spirit, all while celebrating the local area.

  • Alfred has been an LHP customer for over 12 years. He’s keen to help improve shared outdoor spaces and regularly joins our walkabouts.

  • Sarah isn’t an LHP customer but is passionate about getting involved in local projects. She lives close to LHP homes and has several friends who are LHP customers.

Our Neighbourhood Champions take part in regular forums, where they share local insight, raise issues that matter in their area and help shape improvements within our neighbourhoods. They also take part in our local NAP groups, which meet each month in our communities to help design action plans for the area. These meetings bring together colleagues, including Neighbourhood Officers, ASB Officers, Income Officers and Repairs colleagues, as well as local partners such as the police, councillors and other community groups.

By bringing together local knowledge, shared experience and a passion for the community, our Champions are already helping strengthen how we shape our neighbourhoods. We’re extremely proud to have them on board and excited about what we can achieve together.

We’re still actively recruiting Neighbourhood Champions and would love to hear from more customers and local people who are passionate about their community and want to play a part in shaping local priorities.

If you know someone who cares about creating places to be proud of, please encourage them to get involved or speak with someone in the Neighbourhoods team to find out more information.
