Four Million Homes provides guidance and training to social housing resident on their rights and the services landlords are required to provide.
They also hold free monthly webinars on common issues and ways to enhance your community. For example next session is about Energy efficiency and net zero.
LHP are pleased to support and promote this initiative. Apart from joining LHP Panels and sharing feedback with us you can also Join Four Million Homes Resident Sounding Board
They are looking for a mix of social housing residents to ensure it reflects residents’ views and concerns.
Members of the Sounding Board will each be sent up to 3 short online questionnaires by email each calendar quarter. The questionnaires will contain simple questions and will take 5–10 minutes to complete. Questionnaires will need to be completed within 7 days of receipt to be counted.

This webinar will support residents to understand:– the information a landlord should hold about them, what they are allowed to do with this information and why– what policies landlords need to comply with in terms of data protection and privacy– how long landlords should keep data for– the difference between local authorities and Housing Associations in terms of how residents can access the information that landlords hold .
There’ll be the opportunity for discussion and to ask questions.

Four Million Homes Training dates
Four Million Homes is an organisation who's purpose is to help social housing tenants understand their rights, and how to stand up for them.
They are running a series of 8 online workshops:

Session 1: Know your rights to engage and be heard
This session is designed to:
- explore how to get your views across, the impact of resident engagement
- how to get views from your community
- understand how landlords make decisions
- increase your confidence and communication skills
On completion of the session, which means completion of the survey at the end, you will receive a certificate of attendance that is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Session 2: Equality, diversity & inclusion: 19 November @ 18:30 – 20:30
This session will cover:
- unconscious bias and participants’ experiences of discrimination
- how to have discussions about diversity
- ensuring resident groups and structures are inclusive
- what landlords need to be doing in terms of equality, diversity and inclusion.

Session 3: Resident Panels: 3 December 2024 @ 18:30 – 20:30
Across the social housing sector resident panels are involved in decision-making, monitoring and scrutiny, complaints, service review, policy consideration and various other functions. This session sets the context and explains why resident panels are so important.
The session will cover:
- What is the role of resident panels?
- What should resident panels do?
- Who should be on a resident panel?
- What support should landlords give?
- How do we know whether resident panels are improving services?

Session 4: How to run an effective residents association: 17 December @ 18:30 – 20:30
A residents’ association is a group of people who live in a neighbourhood and decide that they want to get together to deal with issues that affect their local community. The group can include tenants, shared owners, leaseholders and homeowners. This session sets the context and explains why residents’ associations are so important.
This session will cover:
- What is a residents’ association?
- Why have a residents’ association?
- Will a residents’ association be possible where you live?
- What support can you expect from your landlord?
- The roles/responsibilities of resident association committee members; dealing with difficult situations
- What to do next

Session 5: Social Housing Legal Requirements: 7 January 2025 @ 18:30 – 20:30
This session outlines the key areas of the law that Registered Providers need to ensure they are compliant with, and also the records that they should maintain; it does not seek to provide detailed legal advice.
This session will cover:
- the areas of law that social housing providers need to be compliant with
- what records need to be kept
- how complaints are handled
- confidentiality

Session 6: Social Housing Regulatory Requirements 21 January 2025 @ 18:30 – 20:30
This session outlines the key areas of the Regulatory Framework that Registered Providers need to ensure they are compliant with, particularly including new changes to consumer regulation from April 2024.
It will cover:
- the role of the Regulator of Social Housing and the Housing Ombudsman Service
- the Regulatory Framework
- the standards that landlords need to comply with
- the Tenant Satisfaction Measures

Session 7: Understanding Landlord Financial Models 4 February 2025 @ 18:30 – 20:30
This session looks at how the finance works, both for landlords’ existing homes and the development of new homes.
It sets out to:
- explore how councils and housing associations are funded
- help residents to understand what your rent and service charges pay for
- look at how landlords fund development of new properties
- be interesting, worthwhile and fun!

Session 8: Options for resident control 18 February 2025 @ 18:30 – 20:30
This session explores different options for resident control, ownership and management of their homes and assets.
It covers:
- what the community is trying to achieve
- building community support and membership
- different routes to ownership and management
- getting the right advice
It also looks at community owned housing associations in the UK and shares the journey of how one such organisation – Walterton & Elgin Community Homes – took control of its homes from the council 30 years ago and where they are now.
